ALL ABOUT WESTBOROUGH
THE CITY OF WESTBOROUGH, is in Worcester County, Massachusetts sits 29 miles west of Boston. It was incorporated in 1717 as the 100th town in the state. It was an area known for its well-travelled crossroads as far back as prehistoric people. Later, the Indians used the well-worn paths heading west from the Massachusetts Bay, using the Narragansett Trail heading south, and the trail that is now known as Milk Street that lead north to Canada.
Starting out as farmland, Westborough was an area settled by the colonists that escaped Great Britain’s rule. Later, with the advent of the railroad, it brought a new era of industry with many factories shipping their products across the country. There were diaries, greenhouses, orchards, boot and shoemakers, sleighs and bicycle makers all supplying local and nationwide cities.
In 1810, Route 9 was improved and straightened into an official turnpike as the main route from Boston to Worcester. One its most famous residents was Eli Whitney Jr. the inventor of the cotton gin and the introduction to the nation of mass production.
Its dynamic community enjoy many fine schools, active recreation programs, beautiful lakes, woodlands, playing fields, and large residential and office areas.
