ALL ABOUT NATICK
THE TOWN OF NATICK, is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts and is part of the Greater Boston area. It is located only 10 miles west of Boston and was incorporated in 1781. The name Natick is derived from the Native American language and means "place of hills".
A famous resident of Natick was Henry Wilson, a US senator who was born in 1812 and became the eighteenth Vice President of the United States. He is the namesake of Natick's middle schools and was also a Natick cobbler. Like many other surrounding communities, Natick grew from being mainly farmland to a bustling town with growth of several shoe factories after the invention of the sewing machine. Natick made boots for the American Civil War soldiers called brogan shoes.
The Boston Marathon runs through Natick for miles eight through 12 along Route 135. It's neighborhoods are mostly residential with Cape, Colonial, Victorian, Ranch and slab style homes and portions of it line the Charles River and Jennings Pond.
Natick offers a public library, an art center, a community organic farm, a historical society, golf course, churches, public and private schools. Residents can enjoy a multitude of public parks, athletic fields, nature trails, boating, picnic areas and tennis and volleyball courts.
