ALL ABOUT FRAMINGHAM
THE TOWN OF FRAMINGHAM, is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts that is 20 miles west of Boston and is mostly all settled. Its surrounding communities are Southborough, Marlborough, Sherborn, Ashland and Natick. In 1775, Framingham participated in the Battle of Lexington and Concord in which they sent two militia companies of about 130 men into battle. It was also an annual gathering spot for members of the abolitionist movement. At Independence Day from 1854 to 1865, the Anti Slavery Society gathered near an area which is now known as downtown Framingham. They burned copies of the US Constitution and other writings supporting slavery in an open defiant proclamation against it, calling for its abolishment.
In the early 1950s, as in most surrounding areas, there was a boom in population growth following the baby boom post World War II. Framingham has an abundance of small office buildings, retail shops, restaurants, large auto dealerships and strip malls. Residences include many apartment buildings, single-family homes with small lots, multi-family homes and multi-story apartment complexes. It is a culturally and ethnic diverse community with many retail areas. Framingham offers an abundance of conservation land with many parks and recreational areas to visit that offers tennis courts, ball fields, horseback riding, boating, fishing, and hiking trails.
