THE TOWN OF ASHLAND, is a city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts 22 miles west of Boston and is primarily a residential suburb. The area was settled in the early 1700s and was inhabited by the Megunko Native Americans. With the construction of the railroad in the 1830s, the town of Ashland quickly developed numerous mills and a flourishing shoe and boot industry. The railroad later provided a connection to surrounding communities such as Natick, Sherborn and Framingham with the operation of streetcars. By the 1920s, the rail lines were obsolete with the advent of automobiles. Ashland has the feel of a typical New England rural town and has many great things to offer it residents. The Boston Marathon's route runs through Ashland, it hosts a yearly festival called Ashland Day in the fall, has various State Parks with swimming, boat rentals, fishing and horseback riding trails. It hosts the Ashland Summer Concert Series and every Saturday from June to October it offers the Ashland's Farmer's Market.
